Information on Autism

Autism, a neurological variation that affects 1 in 44 children (Maenner et al., 2018), is classified as a developmental disability. Defining characteristics of Autism generally appear in children before the age of 3. People with autism may have repetitive behaviors and difficulty with social interaction and verbal/nonverbal communication. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends autism-specific screening during 18-month and 24-month routine visits (Pediatrics, 2007).
