Promoting Neurodiversity

The Autism & Social Communication Lab is committed to working with Portland State to ensure that people on the spectrum are given equal opportunity to succeed both on our campus and beyond. To further this cause, we are currently working to promote Neurodiversity here at Portland State through our College From an Autistic viewpoint project.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is a perspective that autism and other neurological conditions (e.g., ADHD, Dyslexia, Learning Disabilities, etc.) are differences as opposed to deficits. It is an approach that focuses on strengths in people rather than the things they cannot do. It aligns with what is known as the social model of disability.
