College from an Autistic Viewpoint: Experiences from Across the Spectrum

Through interactive interviews, Portland State University students who self-identify as on the spectrum are able to share their insights and ideas regarding their first-hand experiences as college students on the PSU campus. The goal of College from an Autistic Viewpoint: Experiences from Across the Spectrum is to learn about the successes and challenges experienced by autistic college students at Portland State University, and to develop collaborative ideas regarding resources, as well as supports that may improve their college experiences.

Communication Perspectives of Speaking AAC-Users

Currently, few peer-reviewed studies investigate experiences of adult AAC-users from their own perspective, and none focus solely on autistic experiences. The goal of this pilot study is to recruit autistic adults who use Augmentative & Alternative Communication (e.g., speech-generating device, sign language, picture boards, etc.) part-time to share their communication experiences and perspectives. We hope to gain insight into the concept of communication from an unexplored viewpoint and inspire other researchers to investigate this underrepresented population in the autism literature.
